so that we can work to gether and grow, as well as be strong like the jewish community is. the jewish community takes care of their own, and work together. thats why they’re one the strongest influences in alot of american cities.

6. What does King mean when he says  “Power is not the Whiteman’s birthright”?

he means that the “whiteman” isn’t born with power over everything. no one is born with that. we can all have some sort of power if we all hone in on it and become more responsible and take the blame for things we let happen.

Instructions and Expectations: Write 4-5 pages (no less than 1000 words, no more than 1300) on the thesis you chose about yourself. You will need to use primary and secondary sources (at least one of each) and data collected from the interview conducted.

This essay will be graded as a reflective writing piece for 30% of your total grade. Remember to follow the formatting guidelines to receive full credit. Keep in mind, all typed writing assignments must be in times new roman, 12 point font, and double spaced. All margins must be 1 inch.

You MUST post your final essay on wordpress on or before 5:00 a.m., Friday, April 9, 2010. The hardcopy, including your draft, and peer editing worksheets MUST be submitted for full credit at the start of class on April 9. This is one of few grades you will earn this marking period, failure to complete this assignment could result in failure of the class.

Example Essay for Interview Research Assignment

Writing about the self can be difficult. While many people are used to talking about their memories, loves, hates, passions, and future plans, putting it all into words can be challenging. When I first decided to complete this assignment as an example to my students, I thought I would broaden the scope of my life to include many varied details. Faced with the white page of the computer, I became surprisingly more introspective: In fact, I wanted to protect myself from such exposure. To complete the task and stay true to my own comfortability, my is primarily on two of the things I love most in life, coffee and running.

In the early morning, during the winter of ’84, I sat in the passenger seat of my father’s red Chevy Volvo, waiting for him to finish scraping ice off the windshield. In Michigan, and most of the mid-west, winter lasts about 9 months of the year; the rest is summer. This day was especially cold and the coffee from his ride home the night before was frozen in the mug, resting in the cup-holder near the dashboard. The heat was blasting to warm the car and the mug began to sweat a little on the outside. Always an inquisitive child, I looked at the melting brown liquid with some curiosity.

The smell was unappealing – burnt and bitter, like wood or pipe tobacco. When he got in the car to warm his thick, overworked fingers, I asked my father if I could taste the coffee. At first it felt wrong to drink something so harsh against the pallet. Relentless as usual, I kept on sipping until I finished the entire mug. I don’t recall anything that happened on our drive, where we went, or when we returned. I do, however, know that from that point forward I was allowed my own half-cup of coffee in the mornings when I stayed with my father.

The craving for coffee grew over time, as it is both a drug and a delicious drink. When interviewed recently about my favorite food, my response was “coffee.” My favorite drink is also coffee. Coffee is the answer to so many questions I have asked about myself: It’s a past time, a hobby, a passion, and a sport. Drinking coffee gives me a feeling of calm and contentedness. The only other thing that compares is running, the effect of which is nearly the same.

In the figurative sense, I have spent most of life running – from my past, certain people, even my family at times. However, four years ago, I stopped all that figurative nonsense and began to actually run. On Thanksgiving day, at the end of 2006, I ran my first 4 mile stretch and much to my surprise, I didn’t die.
